Description
The Merkava series is a series of main battle tanks used by the Israeli Defense Forces and forming the backbone of the IDF Armored Corps.
Development began in 1970, and the Merkava Mark 1 officially entered service in 1979.
The Merkava Mark 2 is an improved version with a mortar relocated to the turret, additional turret armor, thermal imaging sight, and more. It is armed with the 105-millimeter M64 L71A cannon, two 7.62-millimeter anti-infantry machine guns, and an internally mounted 60-millimeter mortar.
